1991: In Hessen, Germany, a coalition consisting of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Green Party gain control of the state Landtag. They begin to try and curb unfair business dealings and control environmental destruction.
1994: In Germany, a record heatwave sends temperatures up to 86 to 104 degrees F.
1994: In Hessen, Germany, Speeds on the autobahn are restricted to 90 km per hour. Additionally, new environmental laws strongly discourage the purchase and use of air conditioners. Businesses are extremely displeased over this new legislation. This also furthers a growing rift between the pro-environmental northern Hessians and the pro-business southern Hessians.
1996: In Germany, the Die Grunen political party, a group known for being a leading ecological power in Germany, is dissolved.
1998: In Berlin, Germany, the Daimler Benz corporation covers the Potsdamer Platz with a 250-meter skyscraper with three administrative wings.

1999: In Germany, the independent towns of Gladbeck, Bottrop and Kirchhellen are merged to form the city of Glabotki.

2001: A few weeks after the initial German ecological evacuations, the Baltic Sea becomes so poisoned with caustic chemical sludge that the surrounding communities can no longer survive. Soon after, the North Sea suffers the same collapse, affecting the seaboard regions of Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands.
2001: In Germany, Long forgotten landfills from the former East Germany begin to leak poison into the groundwater. This forces the government to evacuate and seal off large portions of the eastern Lander.
2002: In Germany, the ecology-minded Bundnis 2000 political party achieves landmark victories in response to the recent ecological damage.
2002: In Germany, on November 19, the worst flash flood in recorded history strikes the North Sea regions of the country. Huge portions of Hamburg as well as eastern and western Frisia are bathed in oily sewage. In response the government shuts down the nuclear power plants along the Lower Elbe River in time to prevent a worse disaster. Even so, thousands die in the flood and then from chemical poisoning in the following weeks.
2004: In Hessen, Germany, responding to the barely averted meltdown of the Biblis nuclear plant, the SPD/Green coalition government initiates severe environmental laws. The measures force many plants to close, including the Merck processing plant in Darmstadt and the BP refinery in Gustavsburg. The plant managers as well as other employers respond angrily.
2004: In Germany, responding to the close calls of the flood, the government shuts down all remaining German nuclear power plants. Despite the long-term benefits of this move there is one accident. At Biblis, near Mannheim in southern Germany, engineers working too quickly release small amounts of radioactive gas into the atmosphere.
2005: In Germany, the Border Wars cause massive migration of refugees away from the fighting. This along with the turmoil within the Russian Republic and the migration from the contaminated North Sea causes massive economic and social turmoil. The cities of the south are unable to handle the massive population explosion.
2006: In Germany, the general elections give a slim majority to a coalition of candidates from the leftist social democrat SPD and the USPD (Independent German Socialist Party), Bundnis 2000, and a few communists. within months however, this government finds itself at odds with Germany's megacorporations.
2006: In Germany, the government, in an attempt to control its voter base, passes legislation giving migrants the right to vote in local as well as general elections.
2007: In Germany, the elections of the Berlin leaves that city in control of cronies of the Daimier-Benz corporation.

2008: On May 1, in Germany, the administrative governments of Frankfurt am Main, Offenbach, Hanau, Darmstadt, the Bergstrase, Gros-Gerau, Main-Taunus, and Wiesbaden secede from the state of Hessen to create the new state of Rheinhessen. The city of Wiesbaden proceeds to evict the Hessen state government and the officials are run out of the city by armed mobs. The new state then seizes Border Guard and Bundeswehr armories with militia that have been training in the abandoned American karsernes in Russelsheim, Munster, and Offenbach.
2008: In Germany, the coalition government collapses when the USPD breaks from it and the SPD replaces them with members of the Christian Democratic Union. This makes the decaying social situation in Germany worse. In an attempt to control the growing violence, the government begins to rely heavily on the Federal Border Guards as well as Lander, or individual state, police forces.
2008: In Berlin, Germany, the Olympic stadium is constructed.
2008: On March 4, in Lorraine, France, the nuclear plant at Cattenom suffers terminal meltdown and the plant leaks highly explosive gas which detonates Block 2 of the plant. This releases a cloud of radioactive gas which blow into provinces of both France and Germany. German and French authorities manage to evacuate the entire Saarland, the province of Lorraine, and the nation of Luxembourg. The meltdown costs 37,241 lives. The Saarland and the nearby district of Trier are declared disaster areas. Refugees flood the Rhineland-Palatinate and northern Baden-Wurttemberg.
2009: In Germany, Bavaria and Baden-Wurttemberg, threatened with more refugees from the Cattenom nuclear disaster, threaten to secede from Germany.
2009: On April 29, in Germany, the Federal government vests all political power into a military council headed by General Horst Stockter. This council dissolves all parliaments and Lander governments and establishes martial law. The population hardly resists at all. In Bavaria the council confiscates weapons and the Bavarians surrender on May 4 giving General Stocketer complete control of Germany.
2009: In Berlin, Germany, a second network to the U-Bahn system is constructed.
2010: In Germany, the Buer district of Gelsenkirchen and Recklinghausen is almost totally destroyed in a food riot.
2010: In Germany, the military government officially recognizes the new state of Rheinhessen and further aids them by annexing to them the districts of Mannheim and Heidelberg.
2010: Within weeks of its first appearance, VITAS cases are being reported around the planet. Most fatalities occur in outlying areas of the planet where medical care is scarce and in high-population centers where supplies of medicines and vaccines are insufficient. China, India, many African nations, and densely populated Third World cities suffer disproportionately due to their insufficient medical delivery systems. By the end of the year approximately 25% of the world's people are dead or dying. Ironically, the re-education centers are spared the worst of the plague due to their isolation.
2011: In Europe, massive civilian protests lead to raids on nuclear power plants. Three plants suffer meltdowns and cause massive radiation damage.
2011: On February 9, hurricane-force winds push the poisonous waters of the North Sea into the mouth of the Elbe River in Germany. This soon becomes the worst flood in human history. The dikes of North Frisia and the dams of the Dutch Ijsselmeer burst. When the waters finally recede, most of the Netherlands and North Frisia and all of East Frisia is buried under toxic sludge making them uninhabitable. The flood costs half a million lives and leaves nearly 45 million people in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Denmark without homes. In the city of Hamburg, the waters never recede earning it the nickname, "Venice of the North." The city soon becomes a black market paradise. The defunct nuclear plants of Brunsbuttel and Brokdorf are also hit, turning them into radioactive time bombs.
2011: In Germany, General Stockter responds to the flood by decreeing a restructuring of the federal Lander, uniting the northern Lander of Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, Lower Saxony, Bremen, and the northern part of Saxony-Anhalt to form the North German Federation. The General also establishes the Special Legislative Zone (SOX) in the Saar. Corporations respond to this chaos by buying up many smaller corporations. Telecommunications, information, and computer related industries tend to gravitate towards southern Germany. Heavy industry moves towards the North German Federation.
2011: In Germany, Degussa, Solvay, and BASF merge together to form AG Chemie Europa. This new corporation joins with ZetaImpChem to buy out and divide Hoechst AG. AG Chemie Europa builds its new corporate headquarters in the remains of Hoechst AG's Stammwerk in Frankfurt.
2011: Worldwide, mutant children begin being born to "normal" parents. This event is labeled Unexplained Genetic Expression, or UGE. Newsweek magazine label these children as "elves and dwarves."
2011: In Germany, sightings of dragons are reported in the Eifel and Harz mountains, the Bohemian Forest, the Giant Mountains, and the Allgau Mountains.
2011: In Germany, Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank join together to form the Frankfuurter Bankenverein. This organization absorbs many other banks in the Rhein-Main-Neckar region.
2011: On November 23, In Germany, the Treaty of Passau is signed settling all remaining disputes about the rights of national and international corporations. This treaty guarantees extraterritoriality to any corporation larger than a certain size.
2011: Pope John Paul IV denounces metahumans as abominations in the eyes of God.
2012: After a series of hostilities between corporations resulting in massive profit loss, the Keruba Corporation (later absorbed by Renraku Computer Systems), BMW, Ares Industries, The Shiawase Corporation, Mitsuhama Computer Technologies, ORO Corporation, and JRJ (later absorbed by Fuchi Industrial Electronics) band together to form the Inter-Corporate Council (ICC) to represent the interests of all megacorporations.
2012: In Germany, the great dragon Kaltenstein disappears, apparently killed by the great dragons Lofwyr and Nebelherr.
2012: In Germany, devil rats suddenly begin to spread and flourish.
2012: All around the world the resurgence of magic causes high-tech industry to suffer a slump.

2013: The Keruba Corporation and ORO corporation go to limited corporate war for reasons unexplained. The ICC meet to mediate the dispute but are unable to do anything substantial due to their lack of power. The war eventually winds down due to lack of liquid assets on both sides.
2014: In Germany, less than half of the population remains with any major religious organization. Some join the Ecumenical Devotion Movement and Catholic fundamentalist groups. Some simply distance themselves from religion altogether.
2014: In April, in Germany, the German Catholic Church holds its Council of Bishops. This particular meeting is fraught with conflict among the differing sects brought about by the Awakening.

The troops however are unable to keep the motorcycle gangs and mobs from plundering Berlin and its more upscale suburbs. To control this, the government surrounds Berlin, Potsdam, Oranienburg, and a few other suburbs with a temporary wall. The city's only remaining connections with the rest of the nation is a heavily patrolled Transrapid and ECE high-speed train link as well as Berlin's three airports.
2015: In Germany, the entire Hauptstadt district is condemned as a public hazard and abandoned.
2016: BMW president Michel Beloit dies, leaving his wife Mina the primary-stock holder of the company.

2021: In Germany, where the Goblinization creates a disproportionate number of trolls, the government proposes putting the victims of goblinization in camps. The goblinized Germans respond by organizing the Mutant's Congress in Cologne. They threaten to revolt against the rest of German society if interned.
2021: In Germany, the government declares the North Sea too polluted for widespread commercial use. Essential shipping lanes are kept open by special cleanup ships, but most shipping groups use computerized ships for North Sea ventures, using live crews only for transatlantic voyages.
2021: On April 30, one out of every ten men, women, and children suddenly metamorphosize into bizarre humanoid shapes. Soon after, children begin being born this way or change soon after puberty. This change, termed by the media as "goblinization", marks the first occurrence of "trolls" and "orks". Variant expressions of goblinization occur in different geographical regions, such as the minotaur troll in the Mediterranean basin, and the ogre ork in continental Europe.
2022: The tension and prejudice against the new races erupts in race riots around the globe.

After a vicious political fight, the Landesrat approves the measure by very close vote. Other megacorps follow this precedent by forcing the mergers of other areas.
2023: A new type of magical talent is discovered when Frances Daniels, a Ph. D in engineering and a 4th dan black belt in ki-akido, is documented using magic to perform incredible physical feats instead of casting spells. Daniels and those like him are labeled physical adepts.
2023: In Germany, the leaders of Bavaria are angered over the government's move to Hanover. In order to placate the Bavarian government, federal authorities grant them the right to veto certain decisions.
2023: The Corporate Court (formerly the ICC) establishes the Zurich-Orbital Habitat as its base of operations.

2023: 29. April, in Berlin, Germany, massive riots break out. With no real law enforcement in the city, the riots leave 14 people dead, more than 2,000 injured, 14,000 arrested, and damages in the realm of billions of Deutsche marks.
2024: In Germany, a killer whale Orca disappears from Duisburg dolphinarium. The disappearance is never explained.

2029: On February 8, computer systems worldwide are attacked, apparently at random, by a virus program of unprecedented power. The program crashes systems, wipes software, and even burns out hardware. The chaos caused by the virus topples governments and brings the world economy to the brink of collapse.
2029: In the course of fighting the virus and attempting to rebuild the world data system, the computer network called the Matrix is born.
2029: In the U.S.A., Echo Mirage learns techniques to isolate and contain the virus. Equipped with new combat programs and beefed-up cyberterminals, they begin to purge the grid of the virus.
2029: Horrified by the ease at which the Echo Mirage members penetrate their most secure systems, the corporations involved begin secret research to develop new security software that can repel intruders using a matrix interface device. This includes research to duplicate the lethal effects generated by the virus program. The resulting software is the first generation of intrusion countermeasures, or IC, now known worldwide as "ice."
2029: In Germany, the Corps Astralia Jenense is formed as part of the Allgemeine Deutsche Burschenschaft (General German Student Society) to further occult studies.
2030: In Germany, the North German Federation begins resettlement of the polluted North Sea shoreline at Groningen, Emden, and Bremerhaven. Work is begun on Arkoblocks, huge elevated habitats, in Emden and Bremerhaven.
2030: The beginning of series of conflicts in Europe and Asia known as the Euro-wars. With the Russian communication and surveillance systems disrupted by the virus, the Commonwealth of Independent States make a bid for true independence. The conflict is long and drawn out as Eastern European powers like Germany and Poland are drawn into the war. Switzerland remains, as always neutral.

2033: In Europe, the Nightwraith strike ends the major fighting of the Euro-wars, although lesser battles still continue on.

2033: Damien Knight, a previously unknown financier, initiates his now-famous Nanosecond Buyout of Ares Industries. Using a series of expertly programmed computers in Stockholm, Sweden, Knight executes a series of transactions so complicated that they can only be read by another computer. By the end of the minute that the transactions took, three corporations have ceased to exist, two multi-millionaires have lost their fortunes, three people have become multi-millionaires, and Damien Knight has acquired 22 percent of Ares Industries. At the next shareholders meeting Knight takes the CEO position from Leonard Aurelius.
2033: In Germany, the entire animal population of a local zoo is slaughtered and eaten by neighboring humans. This event becomes known as the "protein revolt".
2034: In Germany, Meuller-Schluter Infotech, having already forced the mergers of Bad Homburg, Neu Isenburg, Russelsheim, and Maintal, forces the merger of Hanau. However, the confederate government in Hanover finally realizes what the corporations are up to. The corporations convince the government to recognize the Rheinhessen as a Sprawl city-state. The state of Rheinhessen is now called the free metropolis of Greater Frankfurt. The state legislature moves from Wiesbaden to Frankfurt am Main. In return, the metropolis concedes most of its undeveloped territory to Baden-Wurttemburg and Hessen.
2034: In Europe, the Austro-Hungarian Empire is reborn from the Austro-Hungarian-Czech alliance against the Muslims.
2034: In Europe, Germany's elite MET2000 together with an alliance of Hungarian, Czech, Austrian, and Ukranian troops stop the Islamic invaders. Although unable to regain lost territory, the MET2000, deployed for the first time in this conflict, distinguishes itself as a premier fighting force.
2035: Coffin hotels begin to replace front-desk employees with automated computers.
2035: In an unprecedented interruption of worldwide broadcasting by mimicking the Civil Emergency Network priority code, the Ceneste or "forsaken" tribe of elves of the Northwest territories of the NAN (formerly Oregon) declare their independence and announce the birth of Tir Tairngire (the land of promise). Lugh Surehand, now mayor of Portland, declares himself to be the High Prince of Tir Tairngire. Aithine Oakforest, Sean Laverty, and the relatively unknown Jenna Ni'Fairra become the first members of the Tir Tairngire Council of Princes. Ehran the Scribe also becomes a member, but secretly.
2036: The first commercially available cyberdecks are released on the market.
2036: In Europe, the first lines of the ISDN2 Euro Grid become active.
2036: In Germany, the Alliance government establishes a system of grades recognizing magical academics. These include "Dr. Mag. Herm." for a scholar of hermetic magic and "Dr. Utr. Mag." indicating a doctor of magical theory.
2037: The great dragon Lofwyr makes his first appearance in the financial world. Announcing that he owns 63% of Saeder-Krupp stock (the backbone of the BMW corporate empire), he votes himself into the chairmanship of the board ousting Wilhelmina Graf-Beloit. She flees to the Zurich-Orbital Habitat. Lofwyr then names himself to be president and CEO of BMW, changing the name to the Saeder-Krupp Corporation.
2037: Simsense gear is now improved so that it can broadcast emotive signals.
2038: In Berlin, Germany, radical, left-wing students from 3 universities organize massive strikes to demand improvement of unfair examination techniques. At Humbolt Universitat, the school president receives a box of severed ears of instructors from the protesters. He hires security forces to clear occupied student buildings. The confrontations turn bloody and the security officers are driven back by the students. The protests bring out many other radical organizations and the violence eventually spreads throughout the rest of the city.
2038: In Germany, the secession of the South German Lander prompts the subdivision of the Matrix into regional and local telecom grids, much like the UCAS LTG/RTG system.
2038: In Germany, work is begun on Arkoblocks in Cuxhaven and Wilhelmshaven.
2038: In Erfurt, Germany, Jubilee park is built with the help of local nature magicians to celebrate 200 years of gardening expositions.
2038: In Germany, the airship Lothar Spath gets in the way of a dragon over the Black Forest. The dragon breathes fire on the ship and, being full of hydrogen, the Lothar Spath explodes.
2038: On May 21, in Germany, the southern Lander which consists of Bavaria, Baden-Wurttemberg, Greater Frankfurt and the Rhineland-Palatinate secedes from the Federal Republic and forms the South German Federation, putting its capital in Munich. Alfons Hunggarten of the right-wing Bavarian People's Party (BVP) becomes its first chancellor.
2039: "Nacht des Zorns" - In Germany, the lives lost in the Night of Rage are almost exclusively racist humans killed by humans and metahumans working together to protect innocent people.

Das Rote Rathaus, the red bricked city hall is burned to the ground. The rebels withdraw to Schoneberg city hall and deliberate for 23 days. Berlin is declared by the rebels to be the Free State of Berlin, an anarchist state.
2039: In June, Dr. Caitlin O'Connal discovers the equations that she has been searching for that fit into the equations of all races and cultures. Dr. O'Connal calls these equations of group consciousness the, "universal brotherhood." No reputable journal will publish O'Connal's report because her conclusions are considered unacceptable.

Fearing for their lives however, South German dwarfs begin to emigrate to the Eifel and Hunsruck hill regions. Orks and trolls follow suit by resettling in the Black Forest, the Upper Palatinate Forest and the Bohemian Forest.
2042: In the South Lander, Germany, metahumans are placed into containment camps. The South German parliament considers a program of Eugenics to keep any more from being born.
2043: On February 19, in Germany, the Troll Kingdom of the Black Forest proclaims itself a separate state from the Federal German Republic. It places its capital at Freiburg.
2043: In the Upper Rhine, Germany, a series of powerful earthquakes occur. In the city of Karlsruhe, 10,000 people are killed and the city suffers billions of Deutschemarks in damages.
2043: In Bonn, Germany, the EBMM scandal occurs. It is the only reported verified event of magical cheating in Urban Brawl.

An informer within the organization however reveals the plot to the public and the Meaters brothers are murdered and stuffed into a steamer trunk.

2055: In late December, in the FRFZ, a file is downloaded into the Nexus concerning the Chicago Containment Zone. The information in the file states that the Zone is not suffering from a VITAS plague. The real disaster is that the zone has been infested by huge insect spirits that use humans and metahumans for food and reproduction. The Zone has actually been constructed to keep the insect spirits from escaping into the rest of the world. After verifying the contents, the Nexus sysops broadcast the file to all Shadowland computer nodes. The information is distributed to the general public.
2055: On October 1, in the Chicago Containment Zone, Illinois, UCAS, massive explosion goes off at the Chicago power plant at Cermak and Racine. The explosion is powerful enough to be that of a small tactical nuclear weapon. However it gives off no radiation.
2056: In UCAS, Dunkelzahn is awarded UCAS citizenship by a special Congressional act. At his swearing-in ceremony, President Steele personally shakes his hand. His official home is changed from Lake Louise to Prince Edward Island.

2057: On August 7, in the UCAS, Dunkelzahn the dragon wins the 2057 Presidential election by a narrow margin of votes. He is the first nonhuman elected to the office in either U.S., Canadian, or UCAS history.
2057: On August 9, in DeeCee Sprawl, UCAS, Dunkelzahn and his VP Kyle Haeffner are sworn into office.
2057: In DeeCee Sprawl, UCAS, the night of his inauguration, President Dunkelzahn attends the Mrs. Grundland's Peanut Butter Cookie Inaugural Ball at the Watergate Hotel. The event is a huge success and many influential people in the political, industrial, and entertainment fields attend. While at the ball, he receives a phone call that apparently disturbs him. He leaves the ball twenty one minutes earlier than he had planned. He enters his limousine which begins to drive away. Witnesses claim that he is talking to someone they can't see. Seconds after the limousine leaves, an explosion erupts from the street and completely destroys the car. One witness claims that there are actually two explosions: One which simply threw the heavily armored limousine in the air, and another which originated inside the car and exploded outward in a dark cloud of worm like creatures. Although the bodies of the five-man security detail escorting President Dunkelzahn are found, neither President Dunkelzahn's body nor that of the driver are recovered from the blast site.
2057: On March 15, on his show Wyrm Talk, Dunkelzahn the dragon stuns the world by announcing his intention to run for UCAS President as an Independent.
2057: On August 15, in DeeCee Sprawl, UCAS, Nadja Daviar reads former President Dunkelzahn's will at the Watergate Hotel. The will is 12 pages long and leaves inheritances to 216 different parties. Some are specific people of varying social classes. Others are groups. The will indicates that former President Dunkelzahn's financial holdings reached trillions of nuyen and only covers a portion of what he owned. In the will Daviar herself is named as the executor of former President Dunkelzahn's estate and head of the Draco Foundation, an organization to be established to help oversee the last wishes of former President Dunkelzahn and to finance exploration in the fields of technology, science, magic, and social enterprises for the betterment of all races. Although some parties receive their inheritances immediately, the majority will receive their bequests beginning in September.
2057: Copies of the will are distributed across the matrix almost immediately after the reading . No hints are given as to where or how the various matrix groups got their hands on it.
2057: 2. November, nach schweren Unruhen in Düsseldorf-Rath mit Verwüstung aller Polizeistationen wird der Stadtteil zur Free-Fire-Zone erklärt. 2058: In the Chicago Containment Zone, Illinois, UCAS, Ares Macrotechnology initiates a secret assault on the bug spirits using a new bacterial weapon. The bacteria, known as Strain-III beta, attaches itself to any magically active life form and devours its magical energy. This includes mages/shamans, spirits, and dual-natured creatures. Ares Macrotechnology troops under the code name Operation Extermination, without the permission or knowledge of the UCAS government, saturate the Chicago Containment Zone with Strain-III beta. This weakens the insect spirits to the point where they can be killed with conventional weapons. It also causes the death of many magically active and dual-natured beings including the ghouls of Cabrini Refuge. A secondary effect is zones where magic doesn't work properly known as voids.
2058: In the Chicago Containment Zone, Illinois, UCAS, soon after President Haeffner's announcement of the lifting of the zone, thousands of people previously trapped rush over the now unguarded wall. Many people outside the zone, afraid that insect spirits will escape into the general population, attack the refugees resulting in a riot. Authorities eventually manage to contain the riot and maintain an uneasy peace. Many people inside the zone refuse to leave either through fear of remaining insect spirits and gang members or through attraction of the lawless society that has developed within.
